OMICRON CHAPTER

est. 1911

ABOUT US.

Founded in 1851 as the first secret society for collegiate women in the world, Alpha Delta Pi has established a long tradition of excellence by our motto, Be the First. The Omicron Chapter of ADPi was chartered at Duke University (then Trinity College) in 1911 as the first sorority on campus and continues to hold its members to high standards in academics, campus involvement and moral character.

The Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi is a diverse group of women that share a passion for sisterhood, service, life-long learning, and, of course, fun! Our open motto, "We Live for Each Other" symbolizes the strong bonds of sisterhood and genuine friendship that unite us. Our sorority provides a once in a lifetime opportunity that defines the college experience. With a wide variety of chapter activities including social events, cheering on the Blue Devils together, studying abroad with a group of sisters, and volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House right on campus, our members know these memories will last beyond the four years we share together at Duke: they will last a lifetime.

History

Founded on May 15, 1851 as the Adelphean Society, Alpha Delta Pi is the oldest secret society for college women in the world. ADPi was founded at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia: the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women. We continue to hold ourselves to the principles of scholarship, leadership, sisterhood and service established by our founders in 1851. Our open motto, "We Live for Each Other," exemplifies our commitment to geniune friendships and unselfish service to others.

Today more than 220,000 collegiate members call Alpha Delta Pi home in more than 150 active collegiate chapters across the United States and Canada. The Omicron Chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was founded at Duke University in 1911. Then still named Trinity College, Alpha Delta Pi was the first sorority on campus.

PRESIDENT KIERYN OTA

Hello Potential New Members!

My name is Kieryn and I am lucky enough to be Omicron’s President. Being a member of ADPi has absolutely changed my life. It has surrounded me with sisters that support each other and always have a great time.

In ADPi, I found a unique and well-rounded group of girls who enjoy a good night out, know when to hunker down and knock out a test, can have serious conversations about issues that concern college women, and know when to spend the night in with

a chick flick and ice cream. This is a group that can have a good time doing ANYTHING together and that is such a blessing.

Thinking about recruitment can be nerve-wracking, but the best advice I can offer is to try and find the sorority that you look forward to returning to each round, where you can be 100% yourself. So remember to have fun, relax, and Go Greek!

Loyally,

Kieryn

SISTERHOOD.

ADPi sisters may stay busy on campus and in the classroom, but they also know how to have fun! Alpha Delta Pi maintains a full social calendar with date parties, formals, and sisterhood events. What could be more fun than finding the perfect outrageous costume for a mixer, cheering on the Blue Devils together, or getting dressed up for formal? Find out about some of our favorite social events below!

Sisterhood
FORMAL &
Semi-formal

Golden Lion Semi-Formal and Black Diamond Formal are held at the end of each semester and

are always a highlight of the season. The formal atmosphere, dancing and laughter always serve as a fabulous way to close out the semester.

MALLARD BALL

Mallard Ball is a fun ADPi tradition that extends across the nation! Attendees channel their inner duck hunter for this annual date party. Mallard Ball is a favorite event among sisters and guests, and we look forward to it in the fall of every year.

Athletics are a huge part of campus life at Duke, and we love cheering them on! Several ADPi members are also part of sports teams and intramural/club leagues.

SISTERHOOD
EVENTS

We also love our sisterhood events, which give us the opportunity to get closer as a chapter. Whether it be a movie night and potluck in the common room or senior karaoke out on the town, we always love the chance to hang out, relax and bond!

Blue DEVIL PRIDE

Philanthropy.

"We live for each other"

Philanthropy

is Alpha Delta Pi's international philanthropy.

Our local Ronald McDonald House in Durham has been serving families of sick and injured children since 1980. RMH provides hope, healing, and a home away from home for families who have to travel to Durham so their children can receive medical care at Duke. Walking through the front door of Durham's Ronald McDonald House is like walking into a neighbor's home. The atmosphere is just that - a home away from home.

Having the Ronald McDonald House of Durham located on right on central campus, walking distance from our sorority section housing, allows our members wonderful opportunities to get involved in the community. We volunteer at RMH on a monthly basis: everything from cleaning and cooking, to decorating for upcoming holidays and throwing ice cream parties for the families, we love to help in anyway we can. We also have fundraising events throughout the year such as Waffle Breakfast and Grilled Cheese Please to raise money for RMH Durham. Through these charitable events, we not only raise thousands of dollars for families in need, we bring awareness to a worthy cause.

We also enjoy supporting the events of other groups, and many of our sisters serve and lead larger charity movements such as Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, and international aid projects.
